The rollout of the Digital Village community network is structured around the following steps:

Set up of the back office environment, management systems and software.

  • Funding: Private donorship
  • Time span: 2 months
  • Status: Completed

 

Set up of the basic core backbone covering the greater George area, including high sites, through testing phase and rollout to initial test customers.

  • Cost: R 100,000
  • Funding: Private donorship & public donorship
  • Time span: 2 months
  • Status: Completed

 

Connecting first 10 schools

  • Cost: R50,000
  • Funding: Private donorship
  • Time span: 1 month
  • Status: Link to first school completed

 

Connecting next 100 schools

  • Cost: R500,000
  • Funding: Public donorship
  • Time span: 1 year
  • Timeline: Commencement September 2010

 

Connecting next 1000 schools

  • Cost: R5 million
  • Funding: Public donorship
  • Time span: 1 year
  • Timeline: Commencement January 2011

 

Extending backbone George to Mossel Bay and George to Knysna

  • Cost: R50,000
  • Funding: Private donorship & public donorship
  • Time span: 4 months
  • Timeline: Commencement August 2010

 

Extending backbone George to Riversdal and George to Plettenberg Bay

  • Cost: R250,000
  • Funding: Private donorship & public donorship
  • Time span: 6 months
  • Timeline: Commencement January 2011

 

Converting key network sectors to meshed network

  • Cost: R15 million
  • Funding: Public donorship
  • Time span: 6 months
