Expected Results and Consequences
It is believed that the successful expansion of the existing Digital Village model will have a powerful social and business enlistment effect on the Garden Route Region.
Schools that currently have limited or no internet and phone access will have world class connectivity. The initial advantage of this is seen as enabling principals and teachers to have the required contact with the Department of Education in order to fulfil the reporting obligations which are currently not being met. Secondly, the effect will be extended to enhance the learning experience of the children themselves.
The Digital Village model is a systems-driven model which is designed to be replicable. This means that by adopting the same principles and a modular approach to expansion, the model can be utilized elsewhere.
Approved social organizations such has schools, clinics, nature conservation initiatives, libraries and clubs will all be empowered.
A wider range of high-quality connectivity options will be made possible to existing business which will derive great benefit in lowering costs, increasing productivity and expanding into more technology-dependent services and activities.
A next generation network will attract technology and investment to the Garden Route region. This is due to the enabling effect that such a network has on allowing employment-creating businesses such as call centres and IT-related businesses to becoming viable in the Garden Route.
A next generation network will make working from home possible for many career categories, including graphic designers, accountants, researchers, consultants, marketing personnel, engineers, web designers, programmers and many others.
All usage on the network is measured and analyzed for reporting purposes. This enables the model to provide regular results in order that donors may properly evaluate the effectiveness of their investment.
